U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year
U.G.L.Y. stands for Understanding, Generous, Likeable, You!
The Leukaemia Foundation’s U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year fundraising competition runs from August 1 to September 12 in pubs, clubs and other venues across Queensland.
Throughout this quirky competition, bartenders have fun and get creative for a serious cause, organising their own fundraising events as well as collecting donations from customers and the wider community.
In 2015, a total of 320 bartenders across Queensland raised a record amount of $554,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. Nationally, $8 million has been raised to help blood cancer patients and their families since the competition began.
Mel Prior from the Glenmore Tavern in Rockhampton was awarded the state’s 2015 U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year. Mel raised over $23,000 with the help of generous patrons and community donations.
